Here at Scout I try to choose my ingredients based on science. I look into the process, additives, chemicals and their reactions, and impact they could put on you for each component of my products.
There are certain additives that some companies use to boost the scent throw, lengthen burn time or shelf life that negatively impact those who use it. Unfortunately, it is never a one size fits all game but I will never choose ingredients with boosters just to check more boxes on someone's 'must have' list.
-In the fragrances used at Scout you will never find
✖ Carcinogens: These are materials known or thought to cause cancer.
✖ Mutagens: Materials that change the DNA of a cell, harming the cell and causing diseases like cancer.
✖ Reproductive toxins: Toxins that adversely affect reproductive organs and increase the risk of birth defects.
✖ Organ toxins: These are toxins that can cause adverse effects or disease within specific bodily organs.
✖ Acute toxins: Toxins that can cause adverse effects from a single exposure. Generally, this would be accidental exposure like spillage or ingestion.
You will find
-100% USA sourced soy wax is the base of each candle. Supporting me is supporting American farmers, name something better ... I'll wait. You'll notice some of the candles start to turn yellow, I bet you can guess why by now. I do not use additives to accentuate the white color of the soy wax nor do I use any chemicals to alter the vanillin present in some fragrance oils. The vanillin is what will discolor the wax in your candle but the discoloration will not affect the performance.
-In the soaking salts made at Scout you will find pure salts with all the benefits you are familiar with with zero additives to prolong shelf life. Does this mean your salts may discolor or clump? Maybe. Does this mean that it changes the performance? No, absolutely not. In my eyes, it boosts the performance because you do not need to worry about ingesting chemicals into your skin.

Let's face it, no matter how hard we try, our homes tend to smell funky every now and then and we need a quick way to freshen it up and not just mask it. 1 . Background of Invention.
Most air fresheners and odor eliminators rely on perfume and fragrances to counteract the foul smelling rancidity associated with the by-product of biological and organic decomposition. Perfumes contained in air fresheners provide only very limited odor control, as simply afford only short term masking of the offensive odor. This masking is quickly followed by the characteristic "odor rebound".
The distinct chemical components that constitute disagreeable smells of decaying organic matter are typically represented as low molecular weight fatty acids, mercaptans, amines, ammonia, and hydrogen sulfide, on which fragrances and perfumes have little or no long lasting effect.
